June 26 2019 is Reserves and ChamberFORCE Stretch Day

5th June 2019

Reservists make up around one sixth of all Armed Forces personnel and as such play a vital role in protecting the nation’s security at home and overseas.

Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce, along with four other Chambers in Scotland are part of a partnership programme between selected Chambers of Commerce and local Army, Navy and RAF units, designed to bring tangible business benefits to Chamber members. We are long term supporters of the Highland RFCA and are proud to be involved in this very successful pilot programme which is doing much to raise the profile of reservists and encourage many more employers to be armed forces friendly employers.

June 26 2019 is Reserves Day – the day Reservists can wear their uniform to work – and we’re paying tribute to their hard work and dedication. After all, it’s not easy holding down two careers.

We chose to schedule our first ever ChamberFORCE Stretch event on Reserves Day to make sure we highlight and say thank you to those reservists locally, and to give employers a chance to learn some amazing team building skills directly from the people who train our armed forces and reservists to such high standards.

In this section we profile three Reservists, one from each branch of the Armed Forces – Royal Navy, Army and RAF. #SaluteOurForces

Major General Ranald Munro CBE TD VR, Assistant Chief of Defence Staff (Reserves and Cadets), said: “Today is a special day in the Defence calendar. Reserves Day allows us to celebrate and thank Reservists and their employers for their immense contribution.

“Reservists are key to the defence of our nation. They are an integral part of our Armed Forces. They sacrifice their spare time to train so as to be able to support the Regular Forces on a wide range of tasks, including at times of crisis at home and abroad. In today’s complex and unpredictable global security environment they ensure the nation can remain resilient against a myriad of threats. Every organisation, big or small, can make a difference in supporting Reserve service. I invite all businesses and organisations to join the 2500 other employers who have made the Armed Forces Covenant a priority and are standing firmly behind our Reservists.”

Highland RFCA

Highland RFCA is a Crown Agency which supports the Reserve Forces and Cadets in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland.

NHS Tayside

Because we all tend to think of it in health terms, we often lose sight of the fact that NHS Tayside is a major force in the local economy. Its spending, either directly on capital projects or indirectly through its staff salaries, sustains many private sector jobs. Its long standing and very successful collaboration with the University of Dundee has been significant in making Dundee a globally recognised leader in life sciences. And its work to improve the health of the population also benefits business, by providing local companies with healthier and, therefore, more productive workers. That is why everyone at DACC is excited about building even stronger links and more effective collaboration with NHS Tayside to create thriving communities across Dundee and Angus.
