GET OUT THE GATE puts his unbeaten chasing record on the line in the £40,000 Sam Morshead Perth Gold Cup which is named in memory of the late general manager at the Scone venue.
Trained by Jim Goldie and owned by Dundee United director Jimmy Fyffe, the top-weight faces ten rivals in the three-mile event, first staged in 2000.
The Uplawmoor raider is highly regarded and Fyffe said: “He was pretty impressive at Perth last time and his big weapon is his jumping which has been electric. He’s clearly got a big future and hopefully there will be plenty of big days to come.”
A quality field also contains Perth festival scorer Red Giant, now 8lbs higher for last year’s winning trainer Jennie Candlish. Another winner at that April fixture is Iain Jardine’s Traditional Dancer who has been raised 9lbs for his course and distance strike.
A strong southern challenge is headed by Lambourn pair Dragon D’Estruval and Got Away, trained by Nicky Henderson and Oliver Sherwood. Richard Johnson, recently crowned champion jockey for the fourth time, partners Out Sam for leading course trainer Gordon Elliott.
In the bumper newcomer Keen On, another Nicky Henderson runner, is owned and bred by the Queen. His dam, Romantic Dream, is a full sister to First Love who won for the same connections at Perth in 2003.
With another big Perth crowd expected after strong advance sales, racegoers are encouraged to leave extra time for their journey to the racecourse.
