Xplore Dundee is delivering key safety messages to Dundee’s Primary 7 schoolchildren as part of the annual Safe Taysiders event.
The bus operator is working in partnership with the Community Safety Team, Tayside Fire Service, Police Scotland and young people and youth workers from the city’s off-site schools to make sure kids know how to behave on and off buses.
Safe Taysiders takes place over three weeks at Police Scotland’s Baluniefield site. Pupils hear messages relating to drugs and alcohol, social media, personal safety, water and fire safety. They also get the chance to board an Xplore Dundee single decker and learn about the safest way to travel, what to do if there’s a problem on board, and why they should never throw stones or other missiles at a bus.
Managing Director Christine McGlasson said: “This is one of the most important safety events of the year for us - the chance to speak to each and every Primary 7 pupil in Dundee is invaluable. With many of them getting ready to move up to secondary school, when they may travel more frequently on public transport, we do our best to set them up with the knowledge and awareness they will need to make sure they keep themselves and others safe when they’re travelling on the bus.
“We also emphasise the very real dangers of anti-social behaviour of all kinds on and around buses, and the potential consequences for all concerned. We appreciate the support of all of our partners at Safe Taysiders in helping us to deliver these important messages to Dundee’s young people.”
