From kiddie yoga to playing with potatoes, Dundee Science Centre held a host of healthy events for its younger visitors today.
As part of its new ‘Early Explorers Takeover’ days, where the science centre tailors activities to pre-schoolers, ‘Healthytots’ will highlight the fun of healthy living to three to five year olds.
Responding to feedback from parents of younger children, the drop-in, non-bookable events will be held regularly throughout the year, with the centre opening earlier, at 9.30am through to 5pm.
The first, ‘Healthytots’, saw visitors enjoy the ‘Healthy Body Bits’ show, learn about seeds, enjoy a yoga storytime and discover where foods come from. Parents and carers also enjoyed discussions with local experts, including those from the ABC Lab at University of St Andrews, NHS Tayside Childsmile, dieticians and paediatric occupational therapists.
Amanda Dobrowski, STEM Learning Officer, Dundee Science Centre said, “Whether it’s discovering where food comes from or learning to relax and switch off, healthy habits start from an early age. It’s been fantastic giving our Early Explorers the chance to learn while having fun, and seeing parents interact with some of the experts working in early years locally.”
