Breaking news…WORLD RECORD BREAKER MOLLIE HUGHES

Published

14th January 2020

On the 10th January 2020, after almost 58 days and 650 hours of skiing alone, in whiteouts and minus 45C temperatures, Cancer Research UK ambassador Mollie Hughes has just skied 720 miles to the South Pole and incredibly achieved her second world record at the age of 29, having already achieved the amazing title of becoming the world’s youngest person to climb both the north and south sides of Mount Everest the world’s highest peak.

Throughout her journey Mollie is raising awareness and funds for Cancer Research UK and specifically women’s cancers, and as well as promoting her live Text to Donate and Fundraising Page, has chosen to share her inspirational story for the first time at an exclusive event ‘An Evening with Mollie Hughes’ with all proceeds raising funds for the charity.

Cancer Research UK Fundraising Manager Carrie Lennon said ‘we are so proud of Mollie and in awe of her incredible record breaking achievement that she has set today! We are delighted that she has arrived safely at her final destination and wishing her a huge congratulations for all that she has achieved, and so grateful that as part of this expedition she has chosen to help raise vital awareness and funds for Cancer Research UK.

Mollie is such an inspirational example of our amazing supporters who are challenging themselves and using their voice and passions to get involved and to support the charity in their own unique ways. If you are reading this and you or your team have your sights set on your own challenge in 2020 and would like to discuss ways in which you can support Cancer Research UK then I would love to hear from you!’

Cancer Research UK

Every year in Scotland, more than 30,200 people are diagnosed with cancer. Cancer Research UK pioneers life-saving research to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. We don’t receive government funding for our research, so every step we make towards beating cancer relies on every pound donated.
