Overgate in Dundee has announced its partnership of a project that aims to nurture future generations of the city’s young entrepreneurs and business leaders.

The BraveHeart Challenge has been tapping into the energy and talent of young people for more than a decade. Since its launch, the Challenge has engaged with over 400,000 school pupils nationwide.

An entirely inclusive project, Overgate’s support of The BraveHeart Challenge in Dundee will see a whole 3rd year group of pupils at St John’s High School take part in a day-long ‘high-energy’ workshop on Wednesday the 4th of March.

The school will be the first in Tayside and only the second school in Scotland to take part in the BraveHeart Challenge

On the day pupils will be tasked in developing a comprehensive business concept. Competing teams of pupils, under the guidance of a business mentor, will create financial and marketing strategies that will enable them to bring their chosen project to fruition.

Once their master plan is ready the pupils will formally present it to an audience which includes their peers, senior school staff, business experts and a panel of industry judges.

Following the assessment of each project by a panel of judges one team will be named Overgate BraveHeart Champion. As well as claiming the title, Overgate will also provide an ‘experience day’ for the winners. This will include a tour of Overgate, an opportunity to meet the centre’s management team with the chance to engage in a Q&A session, before concluding the experience by being treated to a burger making workshop at Five Guys.

Aiming to help inspire new generations of business leaders, responsible citizens and enterprising employees, the programme has been nationally acclaimed.

As part of Overgate’s partnership commitment, the centre will remain in touch with St John’s High School and support where possible should the school decide to implement any of the pupils’ action plans.

Commenting, Malcolm Angus, Centre Manager of Overgate said;

“Overgate is delighted to be promoting The Braveheart Challenge, a fantastic, grass roots project that encourages creative entrepreneurial thinking, numeracy, literacy and financial education, as well as a range of employability and life skills.

“If the Challenge can inspire a generation of young people in Dundee and equip them with the skills required for the modern workplace then the positive benefits to society will be notable.

“We are very much looking forward to meeting the pupils at St Johns and hearing their business proposals in what is an exciting first for Tayside.”
