Chamber comment on Lockdown

Alison Henderson, CEO of Dundee & Angus Chamber said "We fully understand how difficult but necessary the next few weeks and months will be for us all. Our team are fully working remotely and are here to support every business in the region who needs us. The messages from government are crystal clear - we must all now stay at home unless for the following:

● Shopping for basic necessities, for example food and medicine, which must be as infrequent as possible.
● One form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle - alone or with members of your household.
● Any medical need, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person.
● Travelling to and from work, but only where this absolutely cannot be done from home.

These four reasons are exceptions - even when doing these activities, you should be minimising time spent outside of the home and ensuring you are 2 metres apart from anyone outside of your household.

We're keeping our Covid-19 Hub as up to date as possible - there is a lot of guidance, links to information and we'll bring you more as soon as we have it. In the meantime, please use your Chamber services, such as the HR, Legal & H&S advice line, let us know if any member of our team can help you in any way. Look after your family, friends and colleagues at this time.

Commenting on the latest announcement from the Prime Minister Boris Johnson in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, Dr Liz Cameron OBE, Chief Executive of the Scottish Chambers of Commerce, said:

"The absolute priority for all of us is to work together and take the necessary steps to reduce the spread of the coronavirus. Businesses are taking their responsibilities seriously; to our employees, our customers and our communities. These are difficult and challenging times but the message from the Scottish Government and the UK Government is clear - we must stay at home."

BCC responds to new social distancing measures

Responding to the Prime Minister’s announcement of further restrictions to tackle the spread of Coronavirus this evening (Monday 23rd March), BCC Director General Adam Marshall said:

“Businesses must play their part to help limit the spread of Coronavirus.

“As the UK goes into lockdown, ministers must be crystal-clear about which businesses can continue to operate, and those which must now shut their doors.

“The new restrictions make it all the more important that the package of financial support announced by ministers last week is delivered to firms and employees on the ground as quickly as possible.”
