ANGUSalive libraries launch All 4 Fun Lockdown Reading Challenge

All 4 Fun Reading Challenge is a reading incentive created especially by ANGUSalive libraries to encourage children and adults to read more by promoting a number of the free services available which make reading even easier.

Our online library app provided by RBDigital is a free service for library members and was chosen as the inspiration for the literacy drive, All 4 Fun Reading Challenge, because it offers 4 different e-resources which includes e-audio books, e-books, e-magazines and e-comics.

The All 4 Fun Lockdown Reading Challenge will run from the 4th to the 29th May and those taking part will be asked to read at least one resource each week from one of the 4 different e-resources. The e-resource for that week will be announced on a Monday from the ANGUSalive libraries facebook page and throughout the week there will be further posts to support those taking part to guide and inspire reading. This can include reading materials online such as a magazine, comic, novel, interesting facts, a book that makes you laugh, a poem you like and share, or just listening to an e-audio book.

The Challenge is open to all children and adults at all reading abilities. At the end of the challenge, a virtual certificate will be shared so you can have a certificate for yourself and/or your child as a keepsake, by simply downloading the template and personalising with the name of the participant.

Sylvia Main, Children & Families Library Lead for ANGUSalive, said: “We are absolutely committed to improving adult and child literacy and encouraging as many people as we can to read. Reading is such a wonderful pastime which has so many benefits from improving your mental stimulation to reducing stress, not to mention the educational benefits of increasing knowledge and improving writing and vocabulary. Reading is a vital skill that can also bring a lot of joy to children throughout their lives.”

“There’s a book or magazine that appeals to all interests. Participants can read whatever they like - fiction, fact books, poetry, joke books, picture books, graphic novels, audio books, eBooks. It doesn’t matter if children are not yet reading independently; sharing a story with an adult is a great way to take part. There is a good selection of eBook and eAudiobook titles available through RBDigital suitable for children including Roald Dahl, David Walliams, Julia Donaldson, Michael Morpurgo, and more!”

“Whether you are looking for a way to unwind, pass the time, add some reading tasks to a daily lesson plan or an additional activity for a budding book-worm, this 4 week challenge could be just the thing for you.”

You can use your existing library card number or join ANGUSalive libraries online at https://angus.spydus.co.uk/cgi-bin/spydus.exe/MSGTRN/OPAC/JOIN  to receive a membership number. Then either download the RBDigital app or visit https://angus.rbdigitalglobal.com  to register an account. The services are free to use and all people need is a valid library card number and a smart phone or tablet.
