Refunds follow review of charges for taxi and private hire licences

Refunds have been issued following a review of fees charged for taxi and private hire licences.

As previously reported, Angus Council recently reviewed the income it received against the costs of administering the licensing of taxi and private hire car and driver licences for the period from April 2013 to 31 March 2019.

It identified that from April 2013 to March 2016 the Council recovered less fee income than the costs incurred and from April 2016 to March 2019 it recovered more fee income than the costs incurred.

This was subsequently reported to the Civic Licensing Committee’s meeting on 31 October 2019 (Report 356/19) and it agreed to make refunds totalling £39,893. This relates to licence holders in respect of the financial years 2016/17 to 2018/19 when fee income received exceeded the costs incurred.

Refunds were calculated by aggregating all payments made during the three year period 2016/17 – 2018/19 relating to taxi, private hire car and driver licences as a proportion of all such income received by the council for the same period, thereafter using that same proportion to determine each licence holder's share of the £39,893 income surplus.

Anyone who has received a refund and covering letter who still requires further information should email LawLicensing@angus.gov.uk providing their enquiry and name/address.
