Working, self-employed and student families have been hit hard by the current virus and subsequent isolation now facing a struggle to make ends meet with hungry kids to feed at lunch time and extra heating bills.

It is also a struggle to keep kids entertained during this lockdown so Discoverin’ Families North East have altered and extended their usual monthly family activities to produce new home-based family fun.

The latest venture is a Family Bread Making Challenge. The project is coordinating ingredients to be delivered to families and providing recipes and tips. A big thank you to Birchwood Emporium Food Emporium and Café for supporting this project by donating flour and other baking ingredients to get families baking.

On Friday night families in Fintry and Whitfield had their own Bake Off with results being shared on Facebook highlighting the creations to encourage other families to get involved.

Discoverin’ Families Worker, Audrie Taylor shared: “Our first venture was a Grow Your Own Food seeds and compost giveaway for North East parents with great advice from Fintry Community Garden. Later in May we are to hold a Big Night In with free family activity board game bundles.”

Discoverin’ Families is a project delivered by Dundee Volunteer and Voluntary Action supported by Dundee Bairns and Dundee Partnership local North East Forum who fund these activities.
