ANGUSalive’s Angus Archives is calling for local residents to share stories of their lives in lockdown to preserve for future generations.
The charity is asking the people of Angus to help contribute towards an accurate record of history which will help tell future generations about what they are going through; about how this pandemic is affecting their life, their family and their livelihood. Also to share reflections on what has impacted them the most – whether it be solidarity, a new reflection around family values, or a realignment of what is important.
It’s not too late to get involved, write down as much or little as you like about your feelings, what you’re seeing and doing. This could be anything such as a diary, a blog, photographs, a series of artworks, a short story, or poem. Each individual perspective is valuable and adds to the whole story about Angus living through this unprecedented time.
Craig Pearson, Archives & Local History Lead said “As well as collecting from the past, we need to document the present. We are all experiencing a significant moment in history and Angus Archives would like you to do your part. Over the coming months we would love to add your diaries to our collections so they can form part of Angus' collective memory going forwards. We'll add any memorabilia you send us to our collections once this is over and nothing will be made available until the time is right. Anything you send us will help us record how this period in history has impacted Angus, for future generations to understand.”
All contributions can be emailed to angusarchives@angusalive.scot, posted to ANGUSalive, Angus Archives, Hunter Library, Restenneth Priory, Forfar, DD8 2SZ, or once reopened when it’s safe to do so dropped off at this address.

ANGUSalive’s Museums have also created a great way to keep children of all ages busy at home by encouraging them to create a time capsule related to events that are happening now. They’ve shared some examples on their social media page of what might be included in a home time capsule so children can preserve objects from their life now to look at them in the future.
