Dundee City Council is changing the application process for key workers who may need childcare over the summer.
Eight Community Support Centres were opened across the city to provide critical childcare for the children of key workers, as well as vulnerable children, following the closure of schools in March.
Some private childcare providers also provided critical placements on behalf of Dundee City Council for eligible children of key workers.
Now, with work ongoing for schools to re-open in August, the city council has revised the application process and criteria for allocation of childcare places to fit with capacity for summer provision.
The existing online application process for Dundee City Council provision for key workers will close from 5pm, Wednesday 10th June 2020.
The council can now only accept new applications directly at the Community Support Centres from:
• Single parent/carer families where
o The parent/carer is a Category 1 Key Worker
o The parent/carer cannot work from home
o The family has NO OTHER option for childcare
• Families with two parent/carers where
o BOTH parent/carers are Category 1 Key Workers
o NEITHER parent/carer can work from home
o The family has NO OTHER option for childcare
Families should approach their local Community Support Centre directly (locations here https://www.dundeecity.gov.uk/coronavirus/support-and-testing ) where they will be asked to complete a paper application.
Dundee City Council Community Support Centres will remain open until 4th August 2020. Families currently attending the centres have already been contacted regarding their requirements over the summer.

Dundee City Council
Dundee draws skilled workers from a 60-minute catchment population of 640,000 and has a local population of over 140,000. The availability of a large pool of highly skilled labour is a key feature in the Dundee economy. Flexibility in the labour force is currently more prevalent in Dundee than in Scotland as a whole. All forms of labour market flexibility - part-time, temporary employment, self-employment and shift work - are widely operational within the city. Labour force stability in the city is excellent, enabling companies to plan with confidence. Labour turnover levels are less than 5% and absenteeism averages 2%.
