As of Monday June 15:
• School children are being asked to Design a House for a Superhero;
• Shut Out Scammers campaign is launched;
• Audit Scotland Annual Audit Plan of Dundee City Council for 2019/20 agreed.
School children in Dundee are being asked to Design a House for a Superhero, as part of a new competition being launched by Developing the Young Workforce Dundee & Angus (DYWD&A) in collaboration with Dundee City Council, UNESCO City of Design and Voigt Architects Limited.
The initiative is taking part to introduce pupils to the elements of design, show interested schoolchildren how to get involved and how to possibly enter design as a career choice.
Interested participants can find out how to apply to take part in the competition on the DYWD&A website.
Meanwhile, as part of the Shut Out Scammers campaign, launched today, residents are being reminded to be vigilant of criminal activity on their own doorstep.
Authorities, such as Trading Standards, are aware of the resourcefulness and varying methods scammers continue to use to target members of the public throughout the Coronavirus pandemic.
The #ShutOutScammers campaign looks to encourage residents to challenge cold-callers by asking for identification to prove they are legitimate, or to simply not answer the door if they appear suspicious. If anyone feels under pressure or unsafe because of a cold caller, they are urged to phone Police Scotland on 101.
As a result of Coronavirus restrictions the council and its committees are not able to meet. Essential business has therefore been delegated to the Executive Director of Corporate Services in consultation with the Convener of the Scrutiny Committee, SNP Group spokesperson, Conservative Group spokesperson, Liberal Democrat Group spokesperson, the independent member and the Lord Provost.
They have agreed to note Audit Scotland’s Annual Audit Plan 2019/20 which sets out how Audit Scotland will deliver their assessment of Dundee City Council for the year ending 31 March 2020.
The full list of council services affected by Coronavirus can be found on the Dundee City Council website.

Dundee City Council
Dundee draws skilled workers from a 60-minute catchment population of 640,000 and has a local population of over 140,000. The availability of a large pool of highly skilled labour is a key feature in the Dundee economy. Flexibility in the labour force is currently more prevalent in Dundee than in Scotland as a whole. All forms of labour market flexibility - part-time, temporary employment, self-employment and shift work - are widely operational within the city. Labour force stability in the city is excellent, enabling companies to plan with confidence. Labour turnover levels are less than 5% and absenteeism averages 2%.
