Al-Maktoum College donates £12,000 to Dundee charities

19th June 2020

24 Dundee charities have received grants from Dundee’s Al-Maktoum College to support their important community work during the coronavirus crisis.

The College has awarded £500 each to the charities which have all undertaken work to help people through the challenges of recent weeks. The funding has been provided as part of the £20,000 Coronavirus Rapid Response Fund set up by Dundee’s Al-Maktoum College. The Fund is focused on helping local charities carry on their activities during the COVID-19 crisis.

One of the charities awarded grants is Dudhope Multicultural Centre. The Centre’s Sohini Mukhopadhyay said:

“Our work during recent weeks has included helping the elderly and vulnerable with free meals three days a week, and delivering groceries that they need, to avoid our vulnerable community members from having to go out during this time. The award from Al-Maktoum College has helped us provide that service and is hugely appreciated.”

Head of Al-Maktoum College Dr Abi Abubaker said:

“We are pleased to have been able to help local organisations during these difficult times. Supporting our local community is a central part of our College’s ethos and it’s particularly important that we give help during this crisis. The work that all 24 charities do in Dundee means so much to so many local people.”

Funding is still available from Al-Maktoum College’s Coronavirus Rapid Response Fund. Applications from local charities can be made at

The Coronavirus Rapid Response Fund is part of Al-Maktoum College’s ongoing community giving programme which provides around £40,000 of funding each year for organisations within a 25 mile radius of Dundee.
