Dundee social enterprise, The Circle, has welcomed a new member of staff to their team. Alvina Menzies will be joining the team as their Academy Manager in August. She will be managing the Academy during its third cohort beginning on September 17th and concluding in December.
The Circle Academy is a 12-week programme focused on developing skills and knowledge in the following key areas: mindset, business model, finance, legal, governance, people, social impact and sustainability through multiple income streams. The programme is now SQA accredited as a level 7 SVQ – successful candidates will complete the programme with a business plan, cashflow and marketing strategy as well as an award in ‘The Circle Academy Award in Social Entrepreneurship’.
Having previously spent 24 years working within the financial services sector in senior leadership and management roles since 1998, she took a career break in Nov ’18 and is now a budding social entrepreneur with two More Than Profit businesses. During her time in these roles, Alvina built up strong relationships within the corporate world.
Personal and career experiences, life adversities and mental health challenges have helped Alvina to build her own resilience and wellbeing toolkit developing self-awareness and self-care knowledge and techniques which she credits as being the core to her personal growth and success.
Alvina is passionate about helping, supporting, inspiring and developing people and has a caring, people centred approach to her coaching and mentoring clients. Through her personal development programme called The SPRING Solution she aims to help others enhance their self care, build confidence and resilience to empower their personal and professional growth. She does this through one to one consultations, webinars, workshops and events.
Alvina was a candidate on the second cohort of The Circle Academy and is now using the new skills and knowledge she gained in her time on the programme to develop her own ventures as well as taking on the Academy Manager role during this time.
Alvina says,
