Top Scottish chef, Dean Banks is urging fans of fine dining to sign up for a special virtual gala dinner to raise vital funds for Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS).

The former Masterchef: The Professionals finalist, who runs the popular Haar restaurant in St Andrews, is encouraging people to register now for the Great CHAS Dinner Party which is taking place on Friday, 2nd October.

This exclusive event will see food lovers across Scotland host small dinner parties with family, friends and loved ones in the comfort of their own homes, with their guests invited to donate the value of their meal to the charity.

For a registration fee of just £25 participants will receive a bespoke dinner party pack, featuring some of Dean’s signature dishes, all of which have simple preparation instructions and cook-along videos.

Haar at Home will also be donating a proportion of profits from each box ordered that weekend directly to CHAS.

Throughout the evening there will be a cocktail masterclass, organised by Aberdeen-based Boozy Events, a virtual Glengoyne whisky tasting and quiz with Whisky Experiential Ambassador for Ian MacLeod Distillers Ltd, Gordon Dallas, along with a couple of other soon-to-be revealed well known faces, a dinner party playlist and celebrity after-dinner entertainment.

And, if all that wasn’t enough, there will also be a live silent auction with some truly fantastic prizes running throughout the night, as well as a prize draw.

Speaking ahead of the event, Dean Banks said: “I am delighted to be backing the Great CHAS Dinner Party to help raise much needed funds to help CHAS continue its work supporting some of Scotland’s most vulnerable children and their families.

“I would encourage those interested to sign up as early as possible to start planning what is sure to be a dinner party to remember.

“Those who opt for one of our Haar at Home boxes won’t be disappointed as they will each include one of my most popular signature dishes, packed full of flavour and everything will be fully prepared with simple instructions for hosts to easily serve up to their guests on the night.”

CHAS High Profile Events Manager, Diane Alton said: “With all of this year’s CHAS events cancelled, we wanted to provide our supporters with a way to continue supporting CHAS with friends and family in the comfort of their own homes.

“Through the Great CHAS Dinner Party we will provide hosts with all the elements for a dinner party to rival any of our annual CHAS high profile events including entertainment, auctions, raffles, and more, all which can be run at their own pace.

“We are thrilled to have the backing of Dean and delighted to share that he has also donated some terrific prizes for our silent auction. Thanks to everyone who has supported this event by taking part and donating prizes – their support is hugely appreciated at this challenging time.

“We would encourage those interested in the Great CHAS Dinner Party to sign up now for what is sure to be a fantastic evening which will help us continue our work supporting all our CHAS families.”

Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, CHAS has continued to support children with life-shortening conditions across Scotland. While both Rachel House in Kinross and Robin House in Balloch have been providing end of life care, the charity has also extended its CHAS at Home service and now also runs a virtual children’s hospice to support families who are having to completely self-isolate.

Through this service, families are offered extensive support by phone and video on important issues such as clinical guidance, financial advice and bereavement. CHAS family support teams also offer a range of interactive activities, art clubs, storytelling and friendship calls to children and parents.
