About the role

Rossie is an award-winning registered Scottish charity, dating back to 1857. We are one of the UK’s longest established providers of children’s services. We are located on 150 acres of extensive mature grounds and woodlands in the east coast of Scotland. We have 160 staff and have the capacity to support 32 young people at a time.

We are a learning organisation and are committed to ongoing development, improvement and innovation. Our aim is to protect and improve the wellbeing of young people in our care by maximising their potential and resilience and easing their transition back into their communities.

We work with young people, aged 10-18 years old, who have been exposed to multiple adverse childhood experiences resulting in many complex needs and vulnerabilities. We understand that when children are exposed to adverse and stressful life events, these can have a long-lasting impact on their ability to think, learn, develop, and interact with others. We help young people deal with these traumatic events by providing age appropriate and relevant care, education, health, and therapeutic interventions.

Who we are looking for

We are committed to being an effective, efficient, economically viable and sustainable organisation. You will be joining us at an highly interesting point of our journey as we are currently developing a new strategy and business plan to enhance and expand the services we provide so that we can help even more young people get the outcomes and support they deserve.

Our board has recently done a skills audit and would especially benefit from Governors with skills and experiences in the following areas: Business Development (ideally within the public or third sector), Managing IT and Risk at a strategic level, HR, legal and marketing. Whilst these skills are highly important, we are primarily interested in your enthusiasm and commitment and so we are open to other skills and experiences.

Our board would benefit from greater age diversity and so we would like to encourage younger people and first-time Governors to consider this opportunity.
