Local Architects Deliver Success

Local Broughty Ferry architects practice Nicoll Russell Studios has pulled off a major coup by winning seven awards on the same night at the Dundee Institute of Architects Awards.

Their success kicked off when they were awarded a special mention in the prestigious Doolan Award which is run by the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland and supported by the Scottish Government. The practice's recently completed headquarters for Hillcrest Group located in Dundee's Technology Park won that accolade against a very strong short list.

Nicoll Russell Studios' partner Doug Binnie enthused 'It is a privilege to have been awarded a special mention in the Doolan Award. We have been short listed two years in a row which is really quite something and this award is the icing on the cake. Indeed we are the only Tayside architects to have ever received that accolade.  We were hopeful that the creation of a cost effective, efficient and appropriate home for Hillcrest would catch the judges' imagination and it now appears that it did. Hillcrest seem to be extremely happy with the completed building, the quality of its working environment and by its sustainable credentials. Hillcrest wanted the completed building to be the greenest building in Tayside and I think that ambition has been achieved.'

Partner Willie Watt said 'we had a lot of entries in this year's awards and hoped that we would do well across all categories. As in every year the competition was stiff but we won the Best Building Award for Hillcrest, the Best Small Project for the redevelopment of a former council house, the Best Client Award, two Ambassador Awards and the DIA Supreme Award.'
