Customs Brokerage Service launched to help traders keep on trading.

A MAJOR new Customs Brokerage service has been launched by Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce. This new service has been made available by the Chamber to coincide with new customs requirements for EU imports and exports.

Alison Henderson, Chamber CEO said “Our borders are changing, the rules of the game are shifting and traders need to build or reset their customs processes. Our network is the only customs brokerage in the country to offer a ‘One Stop Shop’ with direct links to all sea, air, rail and road ports and terminals in the UK.

From 31 December 2020, the number of customs declarations made by traders is forecast to increase from 55 million to around 300 million every year. Businesses that import or export goods will need to complete a lot more administration when clearing goods through UK ports in Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Any business in Tayside and Fife can appoint us as their Custom Intermediary to submit Customs Declarations on their behalf, which will be needed for trading with the EU after the Brexit transition period ends.

Currently only businesses trading outside the EU must submit Customs Declarations, but this is changing. Businesses need to be ready to manage this new obligation or else, face delays and possibly charges at ports.”

The HMRC-compliant service has been launched nationally by British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) under the brand and registered company name of ChamberCustoms, using the reach, expertise, and knowledge of its network of accredited Chambers of Commerce. Nationally, the service has over 150 qualified customs agents and submits declarations directly into the UK’s Customs platform for goods entering or exiting the country from any UK port. The service can also facilitate the payment of import duties and taxes to HMRC using the ChamberCustoms deferment account.

This new service adds to the Chamber’s growing support services for International Traders which includes Export Documentation, Trade Missions, Training and Events.

Businesses looking for more information on the Chamber’s Customs Brokerage service or, for support to help manage the upcoming customs requirements, should get in touch with the Chamber's International Team on 01382 228545 or e-mail international@dundeeandanguschamber.co.uk
