An annual initiative to support Dundee Food Bank, organised by the city’s Overgate in partnership The Trussell Trust, has moved up a gear this winter thanks to the shopping centre’s Kiddie Cars.

Funds generated from the hire of the popular cars throughout November, part of the centre’s Food Bank Week winter campaign, have been donated to Dundee Food Bank. Accepting a cheque for £111.90, Ken Linton of Dundee Food Bank joined Malcolm Angus, Centre Manager of Overgate and one year old Karter Kennedy of Dundee who parked up for the occasion.

Across Overgate’s Food Bank Week, 800 items with a value of £640 was generously donated by the public, with the funds from the Kiddie Cars providing further revs-enue! This year’s new Food Bank Week slogan was Dare to Care, with the statistics of those in need from the region providing a timely scare factor. Last year, 14,284 people in Dundee were fed by The Trussell Trust, 4,998 of whom were children. Nationwide, the Trust’s network is forecast to give out six emergency food parcels a minute this winter to people in crisis, a 61% increase on last year.

Speaking about Food Bank Week 2020, Malcolm Angus, Centre Manager, Overgate said;

“Once again, the generosity of Overgate’s customers is helping to support those most in need across Dundee. This winter will be particularly difficult for many families and having seen first-hand the impact of donations to Dundee Food Bank and the wonderful work of The Trussell Trust charity, Overgate extends its gratitude to everyone who was in a position to contribute.”
