Balhousie Luncarty care home transforms grounds into Winter Wonderland

14th December 2020

The Perthshire home – a stunning Victorian property set in expansive grounds – drew on the help of Balhousie Care staff, residents and local volunteers to create an outdoor nativity scene, and to decorate the garden area.

ASC, a specialist care facility in Balbeggie also owned by Balhousie Care Group, lent a hand, with service users creating the wooden nativity scene in their on-site carpentry workshop. These were then painted and decorated. Luncarty neighbour and carpentry enthusiast, Jimmy Hogg, also helped.
The nativity scene faces the home so that residents can view it from inside, as well as enjoying it on their garden walks.

Tayside musician Callum Wallace provided entertainment at the launch on December 10, which was attended by children and staff from Luncarty’s Honeypot Nursery. The care home has close intergenerational links to the nursery.

Also in attendance was ‘Oor Inclusive’, an Oor Wullie statue created through intergenerational workshops between residents and schoolchildren for last year’s Oor Wullie BIG Bucket Trail. Balhousie Luncarty is Oor Inclusive’s latest stop-off in a tour of all the care group’s 26 homes.

Balhousie Luncarty Home Manager Cheryl Banks said: “This Christmas is going to be different for everyone. We decided to extend our celebrations outside and create this Winter Wonderland for everyone to enjoy. It’s a real community effort and we couldn’t be more proud of how it turned out. Huge thanks to all involved and to everyone who came to the launch.”

Balhousie Luncarty, on the corner of Scarth Road and Marshall Way, will be lit up nightly for passers-by to enjoy.
