Festive arrangements for Recycling Centres and waste collection

Published

17th December 2020

All seven of our Recycling Centres will be closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day (Fri 25 & Sat 26 Dec) and again on New Year’s Day (Fri 1 Jan) and Saturday 2 January.

Apart from these festive Public Holidays, normal operating hours will be in place. See our Recycling Centres webpage for more information.

All household collections will take place as normal over the festive period (except for a handful of rural properties that have had advance notice of a change in their collection dates).

If you are unsure which day your household bin is collected you can go to our Bin Collection Days webpage.

Bins should be kerbside by 7am on collection day, although “normal” collection times could vary depending on the weather. Side waste will not be accepted except where we have cancelled a collection due to extreme weather or unforeseen circumstances.

You can report and view missed collections on our Report a Missed Bin webpage, where further information is also available.

The garden waste service is currently in its seasonal break, with the first uplift of green bins after the service resumes taking place from Monday 8 February 2021.

Householders can compost their Christmas tree by taking it to their local recycling centre, or by cutting it up and placing it inside their green bin (lid down).

We cannot accept whole/part trees left beside any bin, as part of our ‘no side waste’ policy.

Commercial waste collections will take place as normal, except for a small number of premises in Forfar and Kirriemuir that have received advance notice of change in dates.

Special uplifts will continue to be carried out throughout the festive period, except for Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

All public toilets (supervised and unsupervised) will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day (Fri 25 and Sat 26 Dec), New Year’s Day (Fri 1 Jan) and Saturday 2 January.
