Johnston Carmichael, Scotland’s largest independent accountancy and business advisory firm, has added to its leadership team with eight leadership promotions across Scotland – including one in its Dundee office.

Andrew McMillan, who joined Johnston Carmichael’s Edinburgh office in 2016, relocated to Dundee last year when the firm opened its new office to provide bespoke services to the city’s growing sectors, including technology and life sciences.

Andrew works in the innovations taxes team, focusing on assisting clients across the firm with making claims for R&D tax relief, under the Patent Box regime, and for the creative industries reliefs. In his role, Andrew utilises his detailed knowledge of the relevant tax legislation and supporting guidance to ensure that each of the firm’s innovation taxes clients receives the maximum relief to which they are entitled. Since moving to Tayside, as office depute head, he has also been assisting with operational and business development activities in the region.

Andrew joins seven other colleagues being promoted across Scotland. Effective from 1 December, Edinburgh-based Barry Masson has been promoted to the position of partner in the firm’s audit team, while Allison Dalton and Martin Bannerman based in Inverness have been made directors, also bolstering the firm’s audit practice. Additional director promotions include Jane Mitchell based in Inverurie and Gavin Paterson based in Edinburgh, from the firm’s business advisory team; tax adviser, Gillian McColgan based in Aberdeen; and head of payroll, Michael McAllister based in Glasgow.

Jenn Stewart, head of the Dundee office said: “The Dundee team is extremely proud of Andrew, who is absolutely deserving of this promotion. We are thoroughly committed to supporting our talented employees right across the firm and, in Dundee, I believe that we are doing exactly that.

“Andrew has been key in our ongoing efforts to guide our clients during the coronavirus pandemic and has been essential throughout an undeniably challenging time for the business community.

“This December saw 36 of our people promoted across a range of offices and business lines, taking our total promotions for the firm this year to 70. They are all extremely deserving of the recognition and I am certain that they will continue to drive the firm forwards as we enter 2021.”

Johnston Carmichael has 13 offices across the UK. The promotions bring the total number of partners at the firm to 59.
