DACC Meeting with Scottish Transport Minister

Published

13th December 2011

DACC joined representatives from Dundee City Council and TACTRAN for a meeting with Keith Brown, Minister for Housing and Transport in the Scottish Government.

It followed the publication of the Scottish Government's consultation on the future of rail services from 2014. One of the key issues that was discussed was Cross Border Services, with concerns in some quarters that there will be no direct service beyond Edinburgh and Glasgow post 2013.  This would compel anyone travelling to Dundee or further north to change trains at Edinburgh.   We emphasised the importance of retaining direct services to Dundee and the Minister promised to make that clear in the Scottish Government's submission to the UK Government, who will ultimately make the final decision on the future of the Cross Border Services.  We also discussed rail services across Scotland when the current ScotRail Franchise ends in 2014 and everyone agreed that connecting Dundee and Scotland's other five cities is a priority.  Electrification of the line North of Edinburgh and the extension of High Speed Rail to Scotland were also discussed.  We have invited the Minister to Dundee for a more detailed session with DACC members.
