Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is a Chamber of Commerce?
A Chamber of Commerce is a not-for-profit membership organisation dedicated to improving the business climate and quality of living within a specific region. A Chamber of Commerce is not a department or agency of the Government (local or national), but it will work in partnership with Government departments or agencies, as well as other bodies/organisations representing other sections of the business community or civic society, to further the interests of its members and promote a stronger economy that creates more opportunities for a fulfilling and rewarding life for local people.

Dundee and Angus Chamber of Commerce demonstrates its inclusiveness by opening membership up to organizations from the public and voluntary/social sectors, and is proud to be a constructive partner in the ongoing efforts to promote and enhance the image of Dundee and Angus, and foster a climate in which every member can operate successfully, locally, nationally and internationally.

2. How does my organisation benefit from joining a Chamber of Commerce?
Every member is different and will, therefore, benefit in different ways because a Chamber of Commerce offers a broad range of services and products from which individual members can choose. Any member that takes the time to engage and participate can benefit: whether it is a large company with global ambitions, or a small start-up business seeking to break into local markets; whether it is a well-established social enterprise or a new voluntary organisation; whether it wants to meet potential customers or learn from existing businesses; whether its priority is its own medium-term success or the long-term prosperity of its home town or city.

Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce has always offered something for everyone rather than trying to be all things to all people. This is reflected in its diverse offering of events and services, and its commitment to account management, which means that every member has a voice.

3. What services do chambers of commerce provide?
It will vary from chamber to chamber but generally falls into the same broad categories: events; best practice learning; provision of data/information; member-to-member deals and discounts, export/international services and training.

Highlights of the Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce member offering are: Business Master Classes; High Noon Lunch Series; Membership Entitlement Card; web-based member-to-member offers; Meet the Buyer seminars; lobbying lunches with senior Scottish and UK political leaders; Business Mentoring; and Scottish Chambers International.

4. What networking opportunities can I enjoy?
There will always be ample networking opportunities for members who take the time to attend events and meet fellow members.

Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce organises regular networking events (see diary) and builds networking time into the vast majority of its events. Chamber staff and Directors are always on hand to facilitate introductions.

5. How much does it cost?
Each chamber of commerce applies its own formula for determining membership fees.

At Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce, they are dependent on the number of staff you employ and the length of your membership term (which can be 12 months, two years or three years). The more employees you have: the more you pay; the longer your membership term: the less you pay.

6. Can I attend an event as a non-member?
Each individual chamber applies its own policy.

Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce does allow non members to attend some events. Where a non-member is entitled to attend an event and there is a fee for attending, he/she will pay a higher price than a member.
