Workshop/Taster Sessions

Attendees will have the opportunity to take part in all 3 workshops during the event

Session 1 Back to the Future: Skills for the 21st Century Manager

This session will review the ways in which management as a profession has been documented and researched, so that we may appreciate the complexity of skills required by effective managers today. Participants will be able to recognise where their own strengths as a manager currently lie, thus determining opportunities for future development.

Session 2 What is Islamic Finance and how is it relevant to you?

Islamic finance has experienced significant growth in recent years with an annual growth rate of 10-15%, with over 500 Islamic Financial Institutions worldwide. Currently, it has assets worth $2.2 Trillion worldwide and is expected to reach $4 trillion in the year 2022.

Islamic finance is based on Islamic law (Sharia). The Islamic finance system differs greatly from conventional ‘western’ finance systems. This session will deal specifically with how Islamic finance deals with financing cars and houses, and trade relations.

Session 3 Arabic language and culture for Business

Knowledge of the Arabic language and Islam are important for facilitating successful business relationships in the Arab world. Given that over 400 million people speak Arabic around the word and Islam is the world's second largest religion after Christianity, this session aims to introduce the basics of Arabic cultural, historical as well as religious aspects of Islam.
