Reduce your carbon impact and increase profits with Zero Waste Scotland

Date & Time

Monday, Feb 17, 2020 at 15:30 - 18:30

Are you in the food and drink industry? Then come along to a workshop where you’ll learn how to be more sustainable and increase profits at the same time.

The cost of food waste from the Scottish hospitality and food service sector is estimated at over £215 million per year and around two-thirds of it is avoidable. Food waste not only translates into lost profits but also into carbon emissions that contribute to climate change.

Zero Waste Scotland, in partnership with Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce, is running two pilot workshops, with slightly different formats, to help you to understand how to build a more sustainable business.

Monday 27th January – Workshop one

Reduce Food Waste and Single Use Plastic

Venue: Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce, City Quay, Dundee

Time: 3.30-6.30pm (includes networking/refreshment time)

Are you confused or curious about food waste and single use plastic?

At this workshop you’ll learn how to reduce food waste, saving you money on raw ingredients, time, energy and waste management costs. The workshop will include case studies from local food and drink businesses who have benefited from reducing their food waste.

It’s likely you’ve been unable to escape the onslaught of reducing single use plastics. We aim to bring some clarity and advice to help you make the right decisions, for your business and the environment.

Lastly, we’ll look at how food waste links in to the Circular Economy and what support might be available for you.

Monday 17th February - Workshop two

Reduce Food Waste Workshop with Demo/Tour

Venue: Abertay University with a tour of their Food Innovation Lab

Time: 3.30-6.30pm

Our second workshop, taking place at Abertay University, will include a talk from Dr Jonathan Wilkin, Lecturer in New Product Development and will include a tour of the Food Innovation Lab, hopefully inspiring you in your own business.

Discover the impact food waste is having on your business and the environment, and what to do about it.

This workshop will focus on reducing food waste, saving you money on raw ingredients, time, energy and waste management costs. Case studies will be shared from local food and drink businesses who have benefited from reducing their food waste. And we’ll be linking in to the Circular Economy and what support might be available for you.
