In Your Shoes - Jerry Alexander

Inshmore is a developer and investor, breathing new life into neglected buildings and giving them their soul back. We create mixed use commercial sites with exciting, dynamic spaces, where new generations of businesses can thrive.

Creating spaces which unlock potential and celebrate entrepreneurship and innovation isn’t always easy, but our experience in office space, re-development and construction helps us to reimagine a viable future for these structures.

Community really is at the heart of what we do. Renovating and putting back to use tired and unloved buildings can regenerate a space and inspire a community and that is what we are all about.

The Flour Mill site in the heart of the creative quarter of Dundee is the project where we’re concentrating most of our efforts, and the co-work space run by our sister company LibertySpace is open during the renovations. A range of other private and shared workspaces and a business lounge will be added to the space soon.

No week is the same but here’s an example of what our Director Jerry Alexander has been getting up to recently.

As close to the plan as is possible...

On site in Dundee, checking with the contractors that everything is going to plan. Or at least as close to the plan as is possible with a building of this age and quirky layout! So far we’ve found some old streets, actual flour in certain spaces and some truly stunning pieces of industrial heritage.

Lots and lots of coffee!

Meeting up with Kallum Russell of Acorn Enterprise who is running his already hugely successful Free Business Accelerator programme for a group of budding entrepreneurs at the Flour Mill. This is the first one run in Dundee and we’re excited to be part of such a dynamic series of seminars and workshops which aim to help focus and inspire new business owners to take their business to the next level.  We ran through the setup of the space he has at the Flour Mill, his schedule of events and the impressive list of mentors he’s engaged.  In unrelated news, we drank lots and lots of coffee!

A hotbed of collaboration and innovation!

Management meeting at HQ followed by an Architect meeting about The Flour Mill to check progress with the redevelopment plans. Then onto speak to our shop fitting joiners who are building some furniture for our co-work Hubspace. We try to reuse as much of the original timber from the redevelopment buildings to build new furniture and features. We’re confident this new space will be comfortable and inviting and a hotbed of collaboration and innovation!

Scouting trip

Scouting trip to visit some other potential sites ripe for the Inshmore treatment. Exciting times! In the afternoon we had a planning meeting for the extensions to be built at the Kinross Business Centre.

An inspiring week!

Meet up with our design team to chat about various redevelopment plans in the pipeline. We met at our on-site restaurant in Kinross Business Centre and enjoyed a fantastic wood-fired pizza working lunch.  Then another interview with a potential new team member to help with our expansion plans. A great discussion on what’s going on at all five of our existing sites and what’s coming up. An inspiring week!
