In Your Shoes - Colin Gray

The Podcast Host offers support to anyone who wants to get their word, their personality and their business out to more fans. If you want to share your passion or market your business, then Podcasting is the format for you.

Applying the Finishing Touches

I'm launching my new website this week, so there's a lot of little things to be done today to get it set. It's always a crazy time as you discover the pages deep down in your site that you'd forgotten you ever created, but which now don't match the message! I'm editing copy, changing images, formatting landing pages, linking in podcast episodes. Finished by the end of the day, though, and we're all set for going live overnight!

The Life of a Podcaster!

Today I have a couple of interviews lined up for Podcraft, my show which teaches people how to podcast. I'm talking with a guy who makes a living out of running his own show and getting some insights into how he does it. Brian's a great laugh, and it reminds me how much I enjoy interviewing - it's just a conversation really! Then a bit more recording before moving to editing. I get it sounding great and add the theme music. Then publish and it's out into the world - always an amazing feeling, no matter how many times I do it.

Those Who Teach... Can Also Do!

Today I'm working on Podcast Liberation, which will be the first course from The Podcast Host. It's designed to help anyone plan a show, record it and release the first episode, all in the best way possible. Lots of people I work with struggle with finding the confidence to do that, but I'm hoping to lead them through it, step by step. I'm using my online learning research background to create active, effective courses, a million miles from the health and safety snoozefest you've probably done before. This course will get you active, and successful as a result - that's my aim!

Rubbing Shoulders and Making Friends

I'm out at meetings most of the day, and attending a couple of groups that I'm a regular member of, such as the content marketing masterclass. I remember in the early days I thought I could do a lot of my outreach from the computer, emailing and tweeting. But getting out and about is so much better, and more fun along with it! I spend time talking people through how Podcasting can help their business, and even just how listening to podcasts can help you learn a ton of new things while you're driving, cooking, running... I'm a bit exhasted by the end of the day, but made a few new contacts. I've a fair few friends I've met this way to so it's not all work!

It's Not All about the Voice....

Today I'm writing, something that surprises a lot of people who think I'm all about the spoken word. Podcasting is great, and has the power to engage people and customers like no other medium, but some things better suit the written word. I do Q&As on the site that way, along with articles about podcasting equipment which benefit from images and stats all written down. The written content alongside audio seems to work well for my site, and really helps people to learn I think.

No more Recording.... Well, Not Much!

Once were the days where I would do a bit of work at the weekend, but since my wife and I created two little humans, there's no room for that any more! I'm out the bike with the boy, or walking a hill with the girl in the backpack (a walking one, not zipped inside, don't worry...). Sometimes I'll record some audio with my family for fun, though, and do a fake radio show, or chat about general life with my wife. Kind of like an audio diary I think. But mostly, it's all fun, ahead of another week at the Podcast Host. Have to admit though, I do love this audio lark, so the week's not really a trial either!
