Dundee Business & Language Event

Published

Dundee City Council are currently recruiting local professionals to help promote learning languages and studying business to S3 pupils.

Dundee secondary schools are hosting a series of Business & Language workshops for third year pupils in December. The workshops will illustrate the benefits of learning a second language or studying business and will encourage young people to consider a modern language or business course in their subject choices.

By speaking to students about their careers, professionals can show young people how what they learn in school can be used in their lives after school. Having diverse professionals come into school and talk about their experiences can enrich learning, show the real life application of their studies and broaden young people’s career horizons.

Five morning sessions are running in the first week of December, each involving a different school:

Monday 4th December – Cragie High School & Braeview Academy – 9am-12:30 – location TBC

Tuesday 5th December – St Pauls RC High School – 9am-12:30pm – Onsite

Wednesday 6th December – St John’s RC High School – 9am-12:30pm – Onsite

Thursday 7th December – Harris Academy – 9am-12:30pm – Onsite

Friday 8th December – Morgan Academy – 9am-12:30pm – Onsite

DYW Tay Cities

Developing the Young Workforce Tay Cities (DYW Tay Cities ) is one of several regional DYW groups across Scotland. We help implement the Scottish Government DYW strategy, which aims to reduce youth unemployment and help young people get the right skills and experiences to move from education into employment.

Dundee City Council

Dundee draws skilled workers from a 60-minute catchment population of 640,000 and has a local population of over 140,000. The availability of a large pool of highly skilled labour is a key feature in the Dundee economy. Flexibility in the labour force is currently more prevalent in Dundee than in Scotland as a whole. All forms of labour market flexibility - part-time, temporary employment, self-employment and shift work - are widely operational within the city. Labour force stability in the city is excellent, enabling companies to plan with confidence. Labour turnover levels are less than 5% and absenteeism averages 2%.
