A major international conference with delegates from as far away as New Zealand is to be held in Dundee for the first time.

The Leisure Studies Association annual Conference will take place at Abertay University from July 9th-11th.

The event focuses on the diverse nature of leisure, and how it changes lives through research, education and practice.

It is expected to boost the Dundee economy by a six-figure sum.

Abertay lecturer Dr Rhiannon Lord, chair of the organising committee, said: “The Leisure Studies Association conference has never been held in Dundee before, and it’s a number of years since it was last held in Scotland.

“It’s a particularly relevant time for an event like this to be held in Dundee, as the city grows in stature as a leisure destination.

“The V&A and new sport performance facility at Caird Park, for example, are exciting new venues for leisure and there are exciting projects taking place right across the city.

“I’m very much looking forward to July, and it’s a tremendous privilege to bring this conference to Dundee.”
