A new exhibition exploring the cultural importance of video games opens at the V&A Dundee this weekend.

Videogames: Design/Play/Disrupt looks at their design and how they confront issues including politics, race and gender.

Sketches, storyboards and musical scores will be on display as part of what is the museum’s second major exhibition since it opened in September.

It will showcase blockbuster games from major studios such as The Last of Us, alongside prototypes by independent developers like Jenny Jiao Hsia.

V&A director Philip Long said: “This is a very exciting show for anyone with an interest in art, creativity and design, as well as makers and players of video games.

The exhibition will be open until September 8.

“As you walk through this exhibition you get to see how a game is designed, from the earliest sketch right through to the online communities and independent designers that are reshaping the future of gaming.”

The exhibition runs from this Saturday until September 8, with tickets available at www.vam.ac.uk/dundee.
