SCC Welcomes Fall in Unemployment

Commenting on the news that Scottish unemployment has fallen by 5,000 in the three months to June, Liz Cameron, Chief Executive of Scottish Chambers of Commerce, said:

'Scottish unemployment has fallen for the fifth month in a row and, equally importantly, the number of people in employment has risen again.  This is undoubtedly good news for Scotland and reflects the resilience of our economy and the key role that the private sector is playing in ensuring that Scotland retains as many skills a possible in our workforce.

'The challenge is that unemployment is often seen as a lagging indicator and given the marginal drift back into negative growth that Scotland has had in the early part of this year, the path of future employment trends will need to be closely monitored.

'Chambers of Commerce are working across the country to tackle employment issues and in particular we are looking forward to working with the Scottish Government to secure new opportunities for Scottish graduates.'
