Government-run competition inspired by Liverpool's time as European Capital of Culture in 2008.
Eleven places have put their names into the ring to become the UK City of Culture 2017, a programme which uses culture and creativity to transform communities and help grow artistic talent. The contenders are Dundee, Aberdeen, East Kent, Hastings and Bexhill-on-Sea, Hull, Leicester, Plymouth, Portsmouth and Southampton, Southend-on-Sea and Swansea Bay.
The City of Culture Bid Steering Group in Dundee has set up a new website, www.wedundee.com, where you can sign up to support the bid and leave a message about Dundee's 'hidden secrets', whether it's a place, event, person or attitude. Give the judges 2017 reasons to make Dundee the City of Culture in 2017!
