The first people to take part in ScotRail\'s Modern Apprenticeship in Customer Service (the first of its kind in the railway industry in the UK), have received Gold Duke of Edinburgh\'s Award.

Over the 18-month training period, each apprentice took on three different placements in hands-on, front line roles – station booking office, on-train hospitality host and ticket examining - and achieved a Scottish Vocational Qualification in Customer Service. The Gold Award was a key component of the apprenticeship and helped produce well-rounded, confident, skilled and highly employable young people.

Steve Montgomery, Managing Director of Scotrail, said of the award: \'Although just three years old, I believe the programme is an excellent way of nurturing young talent in order to create a highly skilled and loyal workforce. We have already started putting a new group of apprentices through their paces.\'
