Water sports are back at Monikie Country Park after a lengthy period of closure following lockdown.
Women’s stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), windsurfing instruction, junior paddlesports and water sports hire, including Canadian canoes, kayaks and windsurfs are amongst the activities coming back with a splash this summer.
The summer holiday programme at Monikie also offers up a varied mix of water activities including paddlesports, rafting, kayaking, windsurfing and dinghy sailing.
Outdoor swimming also makes a return as well as opportunities for people to launch their own water vessels such as canoes, kayaks and paddleboards.
All water activities are fully supervised and following all the Covid-safe guidelines.
Nicola Barbour, Outdoor Physical Activity Lead at ANGUSalive said: “We are delighted to offer up activities on the water at Monikie once again after months of restrictions impacting on our ability to offer them.
“We’ve got some old favourites making a return such as T15 Windsurfing Club for under 16 years as well as a brand new series of Women’s Stand Up Paddleboarding sessions that we’ve introduced following feedback.
“The benefits of being outdoors and exercise are well known for improving your health and wellbeing and combining these in beautiful surroundings just add to the overall benefits as well as providing a wonderful sense of adventure and escapism. We’re excited to be back offering water sports once again at Monikie.”
Audrey Gregory from Carnoustie, who attended the women’s only paddleboarding taster session added: “I really enjoyed this class, it was good to have the opportunity to do something for me, dedicate a bit of ‘me’ time. My kids love things like this but I'm usually at the side watching.
“It was great to do something that, as well as being active and good for me, was also lots of fun. I also felt more comfortable in a women’s only group where I felt a lot less self-conscious. I will definitely do more and would recommend this to other women no matter what their age, shape or fitness level. It was fantastic!”
