Latest figures from the Scottish Household Survey show that 26% of adults volunteered formally with a charity or voluntary organisation in Scotland in 2020. That’s just over 1 in 4 people; a lot more people volunteered on a more informal basis helping others in the community and in Dundee these efforts don’t go unnoticed!
Volunteers’ Week is the annual celebration of volunteering, where charities and voluntary groups gear up to showcase the vital contribution made by volunteers.
During this year’s Volunteers Week, Dundee will see plenty of celebratory events across the City to shine a spotlight on the local volunteers that dedicate their time to support people and communities across the City, and acknowledge that the impact they make is a real and powerful one.
DVVA Chief Executive Christina Cooper said: “Volunteering continues to be at the heart of communities across Dundee. During the height of the pandemic, we experienced an incredible upsurge in the number of volunteers. The support, time and commitment of our volunteers remain vital to the City’s recovery. Their exceptional solidarity is now more important than ever and their contribution is wholeheartedly recognised and valued.”
Each day of the week, there are a number of opportunities to join in taster sessions and Welcome In days hosted by Dundee-based organisations and groups. Everyone is invited to go along and find out more about what they do and the volunteers their need.
