Dundee City Council's Performance Measured

Published

9th June 2022

Data which is being used to help improve Dundee City Council’s performance will be outlined to councillors on Monday (June 13).

The policy & resources committee will consider analysis of the Local Government Benchmarking Framework Performance Indicators for 2020-21.

Members of the committee will hear that the data will be vital in helping the city to recover and move on after the pandemic.

In the report, measures covering council service areas are detailed and compared with similar councils across Scotland, based on factors like deprivation and urban density.

Highlights in improvements for Dundee include:

  • Primary Schools closing the attainment gap (between the least deprived and most deprived pupils) in literacy and numeracy
  • The percentage of early years provision graded by inspectors as good or better
  • Number of days people over 75 spend in hospital when they are ready to be discharged (known as delayed discharge)
  • Investment per head of population in Economic Development and Tourism
  • The efficient cost per household for waste collection
  • The gender pay gap

Committee convener and council leader Councillor John Alexander said:“This data is important not only to analyse where we have done well and could do better, but in also helping us to understand the impact of the pandemic as we move forward.

“While there are improvements across many of the areas of our services, we are certainly not complacent and are well aware that there are aspects of our performance that need to be enhanced. We are working hard across services and we have action plans in place for all of these.”

Councillor Alexander added:“This report shows the range of council services covering all aspects of people’s lives and where we are intervening to make a difference.

“There has been progress on closing the attainment gap, but I am well aware that there are many challenges remaining that we will need to consider carefully.

“This report helps us to shape services for the future and also restates our commitment to continuous improvement. We also make all of the data available to the public so that people can see how the council is performing for themselves.”
