Funding Available to Help SMEs Create Job Opportunities for Dundee Young People

Would you be interested in engaging with Barnardo’s Works to create a minimum 6 month post for a young person in your business if you could claim back 50% of their minimum wage during the first 6 months of their employment? In some cases, the candidate will also meet the criteria of another incentive which would entitle you to claim an additional £500 after 4 weeks and £1000 after 13 weeks. Terms apply for both incentives.

If you act now, you could have someone in post in the next month and the 50% funding would support your wages bill for six months through to August/September 2014.

Barnardo’s Works is working in partnership with Dundee City Council to deliver the Youth Employment Scotland Employer Recruitment Incentive (YES ERI) which is being promoted to encourage Dundee employers in the private sector (with up to 400 full-time equivalent employees) to create minimum 6-month job opportunities for unemployed young people, aged 16-24, living in Dundee City. If your business meets this criteria, then please read on for details of the financial package available.

50% of the basic hourly rate (capped at national minimum wage) can be claimed for the first 6 months. This is a huge financial contribution for small-to-medium sized employers. You will need to pay the trainee’s wage up front; then claim back the 50% (hourly rate only, 25-40 hours per week) monthly in arrears. Please remember that this funding is only available for job starts up until the 31st of March 2014, therefore you will need to act quickly if you would like to take advantage of this offer.

The post must be additional and must offer minimum 25 hours per week. If you would like to find out more about the above funding stream, we will be happy to meet with you to discuss the application process and the terms of the funding in more detail. Also, once we have a clear understanding of your staffing requirement, we will look at our existing caseload of candidates first and, if we do not have a suitable candidate on our caseload, we will engage with our partners to generate a suitable candidate for you.

This activity is supported by Discover Opportunities, the Dundee Partnership’s Employability Programme.
