HMRC updates guidance on the Goods Vehicle Movement Service

The Government has agreed to cut the checks made on goods moving between Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

In the light of these changes, HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has updated its guidance Check How to Move Goods Through Ports that Use the Goods Vehicle Movement Service which can be found here.

The Goods Vehicle Movement Service (GVMS) brings together multiple declaration reference numbers into a single goods movement reference to speed up the clearance of goods through customs.

The latest amendments remove information about creating a goods movement reference for journeys of goods through locations using the GVMS from Ireland to Great Britain.

HMRC has made similar changes to its guidance, Create a Goods Movement Reference, available at here.

In this case, information about moving qualifying goods from Northern Ireland to Great Britain through Ireland has been added while information about moving goods from Ireland to Great Britain has been removed.

Any organisation needing to Register for the Goods Vehicle Movement Service will find full details of how to do so HERE. They will need to register if they import goods into the UK or export goods from the UK, through a port which uses the GVMS.
