CAN YOU HELP DUNDEE BAIRNS MAKE SURE NO BAIRN GOES WITHOUT?

The Bairns at Home project by local children’s charity, Dundee Bairns has made an enormous impact on Dundee families in just 22 weeks of delivery, supporting over 5,000 children with access to home essentials, helping them to thrive at home.

Bairns at Home is a Multibank for the city, and receives weekly deliveries of essential goods donated through Big Hoose Fife by Amazon and other companies such as Johnson and Johnson, Proctor and Gamble, Fisher’s Linen and many more.

With 1 in 3 children in Dundee classed as living below the poverty line, there has never been a more vital time for such a project which caters to an army of professionals working directly with families and children in a variety of settings.

“Absolutely amazing project providing vital support for those most in need in a discreet and compassionate way” – Support Worker, Third Sector Organisation referral partner

Schools, third sector organisations and health and social care settings alike have benefitted from weekly deliveries of items such as toilet roll, nappies, toiletries and cleaning essentials which are helping to keep children and families clean, healthy and in some cases in their tenancies, with their families instead of in care and attending school when they previously were not.

The equivalent project to Bairns at Home in Fife, Big Hoose carried out a survey where results from families stated that 11% of families believed that without this service, they would have lost their tenancies or had their children taken into care.

Bairns at Home Numbers So Far

Since September 21st 2023

  • 5,235 children and 2,752 families supported so far and increasing weekly
  • 53 referral partners, serving 29 schools so far, as well as Dundee Community Food Network, other third sector partners and health and social care agencies
  • 3 members of warehouse staff
  • 2 electric vans making weekly deliveries to projects
  • 48,831 vital items such as food, toiletries, toilet roll, home goods, bedding, cleaning products delivered to date

Put simply, this project is ‘eliminating costs’ for struggling families, helping to make houses into homes and giving dignity and choice back to families who previously felt they had none.

“Bairns at home has been an amazing project as it's helped me as a worker provide things I may not normally be able to support families with” – School Family Development Worker, Primary School

As the project grows and develops and the need for such a project in what is arguably one of the most challenging financial landscapes for already vulnerable families in recent times, Bairns at Home would like to be able to offer the service out to as many of our professionals as possible, however the warehouse facility that the project operates from has quickly become too small and we are faced with the need for a bigger warehouse facility in order to greater serve our city.

We are seeking;
·       A secure warehouse space of around 3,000 – 4,000 square ft, at least 18ft high
·       The ability to install an E.V charger on site
·       The ability to install a forklift charger on site
·       Clean, dry, water-tight
·       Ability to accept deliveries by articulated lorry
·       Ability to install racking

Can you help us to make sure no Bairn goes without?

Dundee Bairns

Dundee Bairn\'s main aim is to reduce the effects of poverty for Dundee children. Our priority is to tackle Holiday Hunger. We provide nutritious lunches and breakfasts to community projects that provide school holiday activity clubs for children. This enables them to run quality activities to help reduce the attainment gap for children living in areas of multiple deprivation.
