Carnoustie Country’s location in the heart of the East of Scotland, where golf has been played for over 600 years, is one of several reasons so many golfers consider it an ideal golfing destination.

Carnoustie Country features 34 first-class golf courses in Angus, Perthshire, Dundee and Fife, including the world-famous Carnoustie Championship – and is also within easy driving distance of over 200 courses across the East of Scotland.

The East of Scotland’s coastline is home to some of the greatest links courses in the world, including St Andrews Old Course, Muirfield, Gullane, North Berwick, Kingsbarns and, of course, Carnoustie Championship. And the many inland courses in this part of Scotland are equally impressive, with magnificent parkland courses at Gleneagles, Blairgowrie (home to the Junior Ryder Cup in 2014) and Edzell, with its spectacular backdrop of the Cairngorms.

The reputation and history of East of Scotland’s golf courses attracts many top international and national tournaments. This year, the Amateur Championship will be held at Carnoustie Championship and Panmure from 15-20 June, Gullane is home of the 2015 Scottish Open from 9-12 July, finishing just in time for The Open at St Andrews, which is from 12-19 July.  Looking ahead, Carnoustie Championship will host the Senior Open in 2016 and, in 2018, will once again be the home of The Open.

In addition, the East of Scotland is peppered with hidden gems of golf courses, just waiting to be discovered by golfers of all skill levels. For example, rural Perthshire has stunning 9-hole courses, while Elie Golf Course is located on one of the prettiest stretches of the Fife coastline and the James Braid designed Forfar Golf Course in Angus perfectly illustrates the expertise of the man who gave the East of Scotland so many of its highly-renowned courses.

As well as being a handy location for travelling to courses all over the East of Scotland, including the golfing mecca of St Andrews, Carnoustie Country is also very easy to travel to. Carnoustie Country is served by an excellent road and rail network and two international airports – Aberdeen and Edinburgh - with affordable daily flights available across the UK, continental Europe, Scandinavia and beyond.

Being based in Carnoustie Country enables golfers to take advantage of the range of accommodation available. How about staying in a historic castle which has been transformed into a five star hotel, an exclusive-use luxury mansion, a golfing resort, a boutique B&B or a luxury hotel and spa overlooking a world-famous 18th green? For a value-for-money golfing break, there’s an excellent selection of smaller hotels, many of which are within walking distance of at least one golf course, as well as a wide choice of B&Bs, guest houses, restaurants with rooms and, of course, stay and play packages.
