Leading Scottish legal firm MacRoberts has strengthened its Dundee base by recruiting the renowned employment law specialist and Dundee & Angus Chamber Board Director Deborah Miller as a partner.
In what is seen as an appointment coup, the highly-regarded Miller takes up her new role today (Friday 1 May) with the growing firm, having joined from Simpson and Marwick.
She is the eighth new partner recruited in the last six months by MacRoberts as part of an ambitious growth drive. The expansion included the move this month to new office premises inDundeewith the aim of doubling the workforce there over the next 12 months to meet increasing demand for legal services in the city.
Miller has extensive experience in employment law litigation and has represented public and private sector clients at employment tribunals throughout theUK. Her expertise includes advising on discrimination, equal pay, disciplinary issues, redundancy and severance matters, harassment and the TUPE regulations.
For the last year, she had been Chair of Women Ahead, an organisation set up in 2001 to encourage, support and connect women in business and the professions inDundeeand Angus. She is also a board member of Dundee and Angus Chamber of Commerce and a part-time tutor atDundeeUniversityon the advanced employment law module, part of the Diploma in Legal Practice.

The latest addition to MacRoberts’ growing ranks was welcomed by John Macmillan, who last September was elected as the firm’s Managing Partner for a second time and set out plans for significant development, including increasing the workforce by ten per cent within a year.

Also joining the MacRoberts’ team today are new partners Robin Corbett and Martin Sales. As previously announced, they have been recruited with Neil Amner and Martin Gallaher from DWF (which merged with Biggart Baillie in 2012) to further strengthen the highly respected construction, real estate and projects practice groups.
They will work Scotland-wide from MacRoberts\' Glasgow and Edinburgh offices in sectors including transport, energy, construction, projects and planning. A team of 8-10 solicitors is also being recruited to support the new partners.
And just this week, a new Regulatory team started at MacRoberts, headed by new partner John McGovern, to look at corporate crime and white-collar fraud.
Last year MacRoberts announced a rise in profits and saw turnover grow to just under £18 million.
