Apprenticeship Success for Banchory Chef

An aspiring young North-east chef from Crathes has successfully completed a modern apprenticeship thanks to the help of a leading hospitality training firm.

Commis chef, Sarah Jane Charnley of the popular Buchanan’s Bistro in Banchory’s Woodend Barn, has just completed her Modern Apprenticeship with Portlethen-based DM Training.

Sarah Jane said: “Donna has been brilliant in teaching me. Her experience in the hospitality trade means she really understands the importance of good training in a busy kitchen.”

Ms Maver said: “Sarah Jane is a great example of the success that can be attained through a Modern Apprenticeship. I’m very proud of what she has achieved and I believe she will become a well-known name in the hospitality industry. Val and her team have given Sarah Jane a fantastic start by teaching her such a broad range of skills.” 

Sarah Jane has proved to be such an asset to Buchanan’s Bistro that she has been offered a permanent position.

Owner Val Buchanan added: “The Modern Apprenticeship scheme has been a great success for us, and Sarah Jane has been a star pupil. Donna’s training is second to none and has given Sarah Jane a strong foundation on which to build her career.”

This was this first time the Buchanan Bistro has taken part in the Modern Apprenticeship scheme and follows on from its success in gaining WorldHost recognition, also through DM Training.

The WorldHost programme, which is managed across the UK by workforce development charity People 1st, is considered to be the ‘gold-standard’ of customer service training and being given the accolade shows potential customers that they will receive the very best service possible.

The scheme has been endorsed by VisitScotland and Ms Maver has delivered training to a range of local businesses, including staff at the Balmoral Estate.
