Plans unveiled for construction on Dundee\'s waterfront

Plans have been unveiled for a £40m hotel, office space and flats complex on Dundee\'s waterfront.

The development will be close to the new V&A museum and to the entrance for the city\'s re-vamped railway station.

The contractor Robertson has been selected as the preferred developer. Dundee\'s waterfront has been undergoing a £1bn redevelopment.

This latest phase includes 67 flats for the private rented sector, office space, and a 120-bed upmarket hotel.

Dundee City Councillor Will Dawson said: \"We expect more private investment in the waterfront to emerge as the surge in interest we are currently seeing from developers begins to bear fruit.

\"This will produce more of the jobs and prosperity we are aiming for and it is pleasing to note that there have already been substantial community benefits resulting from the regeneration.\"

The council\'s executive director of city development Mike Galloway said: \"These proposals are imaginative and match our desire to work with commercial partners that will deliver our vision for the waterfront.

\"Most of the land in the central waterfront is owned by Dundee City Council, so we can work in partnership with investors and take a long-term approach to development. We are also open to joint ventures.\"

The private rented sector element of the development will include one, two and three-bedroom flats intended to appeal to a wide market including young professionals, families, and business lets.

The office space extends to 50,000 sq ft over four floors, with potential for accommodating a number of uses.

Developers said the hotel would help to meet the forecast demand for accommodation as growing numbers of visitors and tourists visit Dundee.
