Xplore Dundee is offering Tinsel Tours for this year’s Christmas festival in the city centre.

A specially decorated bus will operate a shuttle service around various key attractions on the evening of Friday 18th November from 5pm until 8.20pm.  The service is free but passengers are invited to give a small donation to Cash for Kids’ Mission Christmas campaign.

The Tinsel Tour bus will begin and end its route in Crichton Street from 5pm.  It will travel along Shore Terrace, close to the pop-up Christmas market taking place in Slessor Gardens, then via Commercial Street for access to the Sphere Sculptures on display in Castle Street, and along to Seagate, where customers can alight for the carnival rides in the Murraygate.  Passengers will also be able to get to Ward Road to view the Illuminated Birds installation at the Howff or to get to McManus Galleries for various exhibitions.

In addition to this special one-off service, Xplore Dundee’s Santa Bus will also be situated in Crichton Street, and children are invited inside to come and visit Santa’s grotto for a donation to Mission Christmas, and the first 50 visitors will receive a gift from Father Christmas.

And that’s not all – this year the Santa Bus and the Tinsel Tour bus are joined by the Reindeer bus!  This vehicle will also go into service from Friday 18th November, so that customers can feel festive as they travel around the city in the run up to Christmas.

Managing Director Elsie Turbyne said:

“This is one of the key dates in Dundee’s calendar and we’re delighted to play a part in helping people across the city access the Christmas festival, as well as joining in the fun with our three specially-decorated buses.

“Travelling by bus is the perfect way to get around on Light Night, and for the rest of the festive season – there’s no need to worry about parking, we have high-frequency services to and from the city centre and you can enjoy a mulled wine.  Let us do the driving on Dundee’s Light Night!”

The bus operator will be putting extra double decker buses and staff on the streets on Friday night, to manage the expected increase in passenger numbers and ensure that people attending this popular annual event can get to and from the festivities quickly and easily.  Additionally, details of Xplore Dundee’s Christmas timetables and the list of 50 Ways to Xplore Dundee will be available to pick up from the festive buses.  These leaflets will provide details of the services and timetables on offer from Dundee’s main bus operator from now until New Year.
