WORKSPACE REQUIRED FOR COMMUNITY PAYBACK PROJECTS

A Community Payback Order is a sentence used by the court, a CPO may include a requirement for an individual to carry out unpaid work in the community.  In Angus 14 unpaid work teams usually consisting of 5 individuals each are employed on a wide range of community projects every week.  In addition to this, there are a number of individuals on placement typically within charity shops.

Unpaid work offers people with convictions opportunities to develop the new skills, confidence and self-esteem needed to stop them re-offending, reintegrate with communities and realise their potential for all citizens.  Unpaid work programmes are focussed on projects that can’t usually be delivered through others means.  Examples of project include graffiti removal, gardening works for the elderly and infirm and a wide range of environmental works, which seek to improve the quality of community life in Angus.  The Unpaid Works Teams are not fully deployed in the winter months due to bad weather conditions.  It is hoped therefore, that this article will reach out to the Angus Business Community to identify any unused work space, with access to electricity, running water and toilets, that could be used by one supervisor and up to six clients, on a free gratis basis, to work on picnic benches, bird feeders/boxes and the restoration of outdoor benches tables and chairs.  In return, the Unpaid Work Teams can provide any business partner with basic services, such as graffiti removal, snow clearance etc, as well as some good publicity in the local media highlighting the business partner’s contribution to the delivery of Community Justice in Angus.

The workspace would be ideally located in or around one of the local Angus townships for more information please contact Neil Gunn, Community Justice Planning Officer, by email at GunnNF@angus.gcsx.gov.uk  or by telephone on 07988039016
