Astro Wullie Takes Bus Trip to Dundee Space Extravaganza

Dundee’s very own Astro Wullie was first in the queue at a brand new Summer space extravaganza launching at Dundee Science Centre last week.

Astro Wullie made his presence known on day one of ‘Boom! Bang! Blast Off!’, arriving in spectacular style on an Xplore Dundee bus.  The city’s main bus operator has recently committed to ongoing sponsorship of Dundee Science Centre’s Community Engagement programme, which allows the Centre - an independent charity - to deliver bespoke learning activities and workshops within the heart of the community, providing inclusiveness and accessibility and ensuring that everyone, regardless of their age, abilities or interests, can enjoy and benefit from the experiences on offer.

Of course, this wasn’t Astro Wullie’s first trip to the Centre, having spent 10 weeksin the reception area during the Oor Wullie Bucket Trail last year. He will be greeting visitors in the foyer during the first and last fortnights of ‘Boom! Bang! Blast Off!’ which runs through to Sunday 11 September.

Elsie Turbyne, Managing Director of Xplore Dundee said, “We applaud the ethos of Dundee Science Centre’s Community Engagement programme and we are proud to support it.  The team do a brilliant job of reaching out to communities across the city and engaging everyone in their fascinating and fun activities.

“It’s also fantastic that we can provide transport once again for one of our favourite customers - Oor Wullie!  I’m sure Astro Wullie will feel right at home at Dundee Science Centre during their summer space extravaganza!”

Calum McAndrew, Exhibition and Community Engagement Officer added, “We make each and every one of our visitors feel welcome when they arrive at Dundee Science Centre but it’s particularly heart-warming and apt to welcome Astro Wullie back through our doors.  It’s also great to see him travelling in style with Xplore Dundee who provide such valuable financial support to our Community Engagement programme.   We hope that many of our visitors will enjoy meeting our VIP during the weeks he is with us, and we know that he will add another dimension to what is sure to be a guaranteed fun day out.”

Blasting off from today (Thursday 29 June) through to Sunday 10 September 2017, visitors will embark on a voyage to the moon and back, with a host of stellar activities, shows and exhibitions for visitors of all ages.

All activities are included as part of normal admission.  Dundee Science Centre is open daily from 10am-5pm.  For more information, visit www.dundeesciencecentre.org.uk or telephone 01382 228800.
