Xplore Dundee is reminding those going to Thursday’s Olly Murs concert at Slessor Gardens to be in the ‘Right Place, Right Time’ and travel to the gig by bus.

The singer’s performing in the city on Thursday night (20th July) and, as with last month’s Little Mix gig, roads around the city centre will be closed from lunchtime onwards, making it difficult to travel to the venue by car.

Xplore Dundee Managing Director Elsie Turbyne said:

“The travel plans we put in place to deal with last month’s Little Mix concert and the related road closures were very successful and we managed to keep Dundee moving, despite traffic disruption in the city centre.  We also had a number of staff present in the area to advise passengers affected by the changes and assist those travelling home after the concert.

“We anticipate a similar story for Thursday’s event and hope that concert-goers will catch the bus into town to reduce congestion and avoid car parking problems.  Our services will be operating until around midnight too, so there’s plenty of time to enjoy the evening and get the last bus home.”

On Thursday Xplore Dundee will divert all services via Ward Road (in both directions) from 1330 until last bus.  However, this time the bus operator has put into place measures to maintain service along Perth Road, with Service 5 travelling from Ward Road, to Marketgait, Union Street, the Nethergate and then following its usual route through the West End.

Elsie Turbyne said:

“We have learned from our experiences of the last two concert events and made some minor changes to our plan, which means we can preserve Service 5’s journey along Perth Road, which will be of benefit to large numbers of people in the west of the city.

“We are doing our best to maintain access to the city centre during these special and exciting events, and trying to keep disruption to a minimum, however I would ask that customers bear with us, as we may experience some delays.”

There are full details of timetables, tickets, concert diversions and suggestions for summer travel on the Xplore Dundee website, or in its latest ‘Discover Dundee’ booklet, which is also available online or from the Travel Centre in Commercial Street.
