Embrace

New DACC member, Karen Law, is really excited about her latest voluntary project. And is looking for others to join her!

"As a Body Image Movement Global Ambassador I am looking to get screenings of Embrace shown throughout Tayside in large and smaller venues alike."
Embrace: The Union Project is a campaign seeking 2,000 people to host a screening of Embrace, the social impact documentary that explores the serious issue of negative body image. Once we accomplish this mission, the Body Image Movement will make vital body image education accessible to all UK secondary schools for FREE!

The Embrace Education Study Guide allows teachers to foster positive body image in the classroom and promote the skills required to build resilience, confidence and self-esteem. Comprised of engaging lesson plans and student worksheets, the guide supports teachers to screen Embrace in the classroom and use it as a catalyst to facilitate life-changing body image conversations.

"So you can see that it's very important that I, and others, do our part to get community screenings of Embrace held as much as possible. I wish to hold a few in various settings so that I can reach as many people as possible and create a discussion which allows women, and men, to begin to regain confidence and a positive body image. As a NO HANDS Massage Advanced Practitioner I see and touch all sorts of incredible bodies almost every day. As a doula and childbirth educator I regularly see new, perfect beings being born. When do our perfect babies become too fat, too thin, too tall, too short, too hairy, too dark, too pale, too ugly...? As individuals we take on the expectations of society, led by the media, and then criticise our own bodies and others far too readily. There is no ONE perfect being. I am also working on a support group to continue the work locally within Tayside.

"I have my first download ready to arrange a screening with so I am now making enquiries looking for suitable venues. I plan to sell tickets to each community screening which will then then provide the funds to then purchase further licenses, thereby snowballing the screenings around Tayside. After costs are met, any extra monies raised should go towards local charities or community groups which fit the BIM ethos. Large audiences would be great but I'm also aware that I know at least one woman who is too shy to face coming to a large screening."

EDUCATION PARTNERS - 50 businesses will also be given the opportunity to partner with BIM to help along the Union Project journey.  As an Education Partner, businesses receive a lot for their investment and BIM are excited to collaborate with some amazing businesses!

"If your business is a potential Education Partner, please contact me for more information. But if you are not in a position to be an Education Partner, you can help with the costs of a screening license so that I can host a screening within Tayside, or provide a suitable venue, or help with the advertising... what can you offer?

"I have this chance to share the film with my local community, create a positive dialogue and help raise awareness. If this appeals to you please contact me to offer your support to help spread the word about the film, find suitable venues and change lives."  www.karenlaw.co.uk karen@karenlaw.co.uk 07952567994
